GBBC Dancing Once Again on Pause

COVID numbers are up all over the area; dance attendance is significantly down all over the area. Lower dance attendance at most dance events tells us people are once again concerned about larger public events with significant interaction.  Discussions in the area indicate  a number of vaccinated dancers were identified as COVID positive.  As our GBBC 2021 waiver states, "COVID is everywhere", and many dancers dance numerous places; without contact tracing, we simply cannot reasonably state that an individual was exposed in any one location.

The repercussions of a COVID outbreak among dancers are serious. Our population tends to be older and at higher risk of severe disease; and swing dancing is contact-focused with the potential for disease spread being simply too high to be ignored. Most event-space HVAC systems are not designed to neutralize viruses.

Gulf Breeze Bop Club leadership must make decisions based on community health and safety because, as a 501c4 not-for-profit, our mission is to promote safety and well being in our dance population.  We cannot in good conscience just provide a place for people to dance while disregarding the current health crises in Lee and Collier County. Club leaders are in consistent communication regarding current data in order to make decisions based on health and safety.

We are excited about getting together and creating happy feet again soon, and hope to begin dancing again this fall. Until then, we are taking a pause from dancing. Watch this space for updated announcements about when we will start playing the tunes that make dance magic happen.
